While the clinic existed as Low Back Specialists of Houston prior to this, we have experienced tremendous growth since our integration with Frostwood Chiropractic Clinic of Memorial in 2009. We would like to thank all our wonderful patients. Without you and your kind referrals of your friends and family we would not be the successful chiropractic clinic in Katy, Texas we are today.

In October of 2009 we moved our location from S. Fry Rd to our current location in Provincial Professional Park. It is a beautiful location with a pond and fountain directly outside our front door. The community of professionals have been wonderful to get to know and work with.

With our unique style of rehabilitative chiropractic care, we have enjoyed restoring active, healthy lifestyles to hundreds of moms, dads, kids, athletes and everyone else in between. We look forward to continuing to serve and provide chiropractic care to Katy, Texas and this wonderful community for years to come.

I injured my back when I sat in an office chair at work that was missing a wheel. The chair jerked me back quickly and resulted in my injury.
I was treated very well by the staff at Frostwood Chiropractic of Katy. The care I received was very professional and they were very informative about how the adjustments were going to affect the pain I was feeling. Sometimes I was in more pain after an adjustment, but after informing Dr. Freytag he eased up on the adjustments and that corrected my problem.

I think my back is better now than even before the injury. I initially had concerns about chiropractic care, but now my back is better than before the injury. I can walk for much longer periods of time without my back hurting at all.

Irma and Dr. Freytag have been wonderful. They are very nice, helpful and a pleasure to be around. I liked that it was a friendly environment, the staff was very informative and caring, and best of all it works. There was nothing I didn’t like about the care I received.

I have had amazing results! I went from extreme pain and hardly able to bend down and do normal everyday activities to feeling no pain and performing all everyday activities again. I would absolutely recommend Frostwood Chiropractic of Katy. They provide great service in a professional atmosphere that is still inviting and comfortable.

I was in a great deal of pain when I would walk, sit, stand, or bend. I suffered for about a week prior to seeking out a chiropractor, but I have had back problems since my teenage years. I have had a few treatments by previous chiropractors.

Irma is great. She is caring, considerate, and seems genuinely interested in the patient’s life. My first impression of Dr. Freytag was that he was more concerned with referrals than the treatment of his patients. It wasn’t until my last month of treatment that my opinion had changed. On my second visit of treatments that required exercise, I had beaten my first time by a significant span. Dr. Freytag seemed proud and enthusiastically cheered me on for accomplishing my progress. I knew then, that under his business exterior, there lied a true doctor with care for his patients.

The thing I liked the best was the exercises because that is when I noticed a change in my back for the better. The thing I disliked was the exercises because (OMG) I am so out of shape that I cringe at even the thought of that necessary evil.

I have had good results. I realize that the responsibility for improvement is mine. Dr. Freytag showed me what is needed to strengthen my core, but unless I follow through it will be of little benefit. I would and have recommended Frostwood Chiropractic of Katy. I like their philosophy through strengthening your core you can strengthen your back.

The staff at Frostwood Chiropractic of Katy was friendly, respectful, and welcoming. Dr. Freytag and Irma are very positive and encouraging. They helped me to believe that I would feel relief. Dr. Freytag also kept me informed of my progress. Everything was great.

I am finally living without pain. The quality of my life has improved and I am a happier person because I feel so much better.

If patients consistently attend their appointments, and following their care plan, they will see results. Dr. Freytag uses techniques that most chiropractors don’t use. I’ve seen four other chiropractors before him who have a lot more experience than Dr. Freytag, but I didn’t have significant results as I have with Dr. Freytag.

You might say that I was dragged kicking and screaming to the Frostwood Chiropractic of Katy clinic. My daughter was being treated and referred a friend and they both had great success in their treatment. It was then that I became a target! Yes they decided that I needed to seek treatment for my back which I have been suffering from since a vacation incident in 1992 that left me with 2 herniated discs in my lower back. My mobility had been greatly reduced and I was not the happy active woman I once was. I had a fear of chiropractic care due to my friend’s bad experiences with other doctors.

Once the care plan was explained to me and that x-rays are taken throughout the treatment process, I started to come around to the idea. When I saw the results in my daughter and my friend I had run out of excuses, I had to go! Initially I went on the “Bring your friend to learn about chiropractic care” night and really enjoyed the interaction with the Doc and the information passed along. Not only were the Docs informative, their sense of humor injected into the presentation put you at ease immediately. Irma was very helpful with insurance needs.

I was not ready to give up on me yet! Then came Dr. Freytag, almighty alignment artist, and bone cracker extraordinaire! He made me feel at ease from the first time he cracked my neck. As we progressed through my treatment, he never once laughed at me as I attempted the exercises that made me look silly and totally out of control, when I tried to tame the exercise ball and it tossed me on my well adjusted rear I know he wanted to laugh. I applaud you for that amount of control.

Not only has my physical condition improved, my mental attitude has also. I am able to enjoy many of the same activities I thought I never would be able to partake of again. I even enjoy walking without pain now, something I had greatly missed before. I have enjoyed every visit to the clinic with my new friends Doc Freytag and Irma! We have shared funny stories of ourselves and our families. It feels more like a trip to a friend’s house than to a clinic. I think everyone should visit and learn how to feel better with a little help from my friends.

The results of a study testing the effectiveness of a new drug, Tanezumab, shows how osteoarthritis can be made worse by utilizing pain medication.

I have always condemned the chronic use of pain medication except for extreme cases. The reason being that pain is your body’s way of telling you something is wrong. The idea and common practice of many individuals who take pain medication in order to be able to participate in physical activity boggles my mind. The fact that commercials advertise it for this use aggravates me even more. Why? The results of a recent study for a new pain relieving drug explain it perfectly.

Tanezumab is the new experimental drug that was the focus of the study I am referring to. It is a new class of drugs that are non-narcotic, meaning they work with fewer harmful side effects that are common with narcotic pain relievers. This is a good thing. The drug has been tested for its effectiveness on several different conditions including osteoarthritis and cancer related pain. The results so far have been phenomenal. Enter the problem.

Individuals taking the drug for osteoarthritis related pain saw significant relief of their symptoms. However, as a result of no pain, many of the patients in the study became highly physically active again. Normally you might say that is a good thing. But in this instance, the patients were engaging in physical activity without the ability to perceive their body’s signals screaming at them telling them to stop. As a result, a significant number of individuals in the study had to receive total joint replacements because they completely wore their joints out. Due to this negative side effect the FDA has suspended further testing of the drug for osteoarthritis related pain.

The point I want you take away from this study is that any pain medication, prescription or OTC, that is used to mask the symptom of pain in your joints can and will lead to an increased rate of degeneration/osteoarthritis. The pain is telling you there is a problem. If your car is warning you that you are low in oil, and you continue to ignore the dashboard signal, bad things are in store for your car. The same is true for your body. Through chiropractic care you may be able to restore proper function to your joints. When your joints are functioning properly they will handle the stresses and forces applied to them evenly and equally as they were designed to. In turn they won’t hurt and they won’t degenerate at an increased rate.

Here are 3 free health mobile apps from the government. The BMI calculator is a great way to access your current health.

I recently discovered three free mobile applications that you can use to improve your health and stay healthy. They are available for free from the government. They have several apps available that may be of interest to you, but there are 3 in particular that you can use to stay healthy.

The first is a BMI calculator. As taken from their website:

“BMI is a reliable indicator of total body fat, which is related to the risk of disease and death”.

In most cases this method of calculating your BMI is great to give you an idea of where you stand. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services a normal weight is a BMI in the range of 18.5-24.9. Anything less is considered underweight and anything over is considered overweight. A BMI greater than 30 is considered obese. The one instance were BMI does not work is for an individual who is in really good shape and has a large percentage of muscle mass. The large amount of muscle makes the individual weigh more, resulting in a large BMI according to this calculation. If you know you are one of these people then you don’t need to calculate your BMI anyway.

The second free app is MedlinePlus Mobile. This is not an actual downloadable application, but rather a mobile version of medlineplus.gov. This is an excellent source for health information. It has great explanations of conditions and diseases and great information about drugs and natural supplements.

The third free health app they offer is My Food-a-Pedia. This application is similar to the second in that it is not an actual downloadable app. Here is their description of the app.

“MyFood-A-Pedia is a mobile tool to provide consumers quick access to nutrition information for over 1,000 foods. MyFood-a-pedia includes: calorie amounts, contribution of a food to the five food groups, and number of “extra” calories in a food from solid fats, added sugars, and alcohol.”

This is a great source for nutritional information for anyone on the go. They even have the ability to compare two different foods. Not sure whether to choose the hamburger or the chicken sandwich, plug in the info from your phone to this online tool and it will instantly tell you the difference in nutritional content.

Do you have any mobile applications that you use to stay healthy?

A recent study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics shows that immobilization of a joint can result in degeneration of the nerves controlling the joint and the muscles surrounding it. This is significant because it shows that any state of immobilization, either surgical, bed rest, or laziness can lead to degeneration of the nerves.

This study was actually done on guinea pigs, so a definitive correlation or extrapolation of the results to humans can only be speculated, but it is very likely that similar results would be found in humans. What this study did was immobilize one knee joint of the test subject with a splint. The splint was kept on for varying periods from one week to eight weeks. After the knee was immobilized they actually dissected and analyzed the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord and some of the peripheral nerves as well. What they found was after 2 weeks of immobilization the nerves began to degenerate. The longer the knee was immobilized the greater amount of degeneration of the nerve was found.

The other interesting finding from this study was they discovered the degenerative changes that occurred in the nerves were reversible once the knee was allowed to be mobilized again. This is great news for you if you are in an immobilized state that can be reversed, such as laziness or due to pain. If you can get moving, any nerve damage that was done can be recovered. Other studies in the past have shown that if a nerve is completely severed that the nerve will actually die, but this is not the case with immobilization. They did not find any nerves that died.

What does this all mean for you? If you have joint fixations in your spine or extremities your nerves could be degenerating. Chiropractic care can help remove those fixations and restore the health of your nerves. This also means there could be degenerative changes occurring in your nerves from lack of mobility due to pain or just laziness. Chiropractic can help relieve your pain and in turn help restore the health of your nerves.
